In 'Fusion', the flowers for the series are all studio grown from specific and ancient specimens of Allium (onion) historically cultivated since the early recordings of of human civilisation, This species in particular intrigues me as it is human activity that is causing so many acts of ecocide, and, the timeframe of the onions cultivation and human interference in the natural world seem to be in harmony from a timeline perspective. It also holds a form which I am eternally drawn towards; that of many smaller complex elements forming into once spherical form or entity.
I transpose these flowers into an ambiguous setting juxtaposing them against dark voids and violent chemical reactions. Spheres of light, microcosms of raw power as they glow from their interior fireball, referencing the true power of nature and the source of life on earth for us all: the sun.
Comparable to visions of space, explosive reactions within a star and the formation of a distant stellar object referencing the Big Bang itself, these images represent a fleeting moment in time. A snapshot view of the birth of a fire already long extinguished. The beauty, colour and purity of their most volatile reactions having already faded into darkness, destroying the floral globes that sheltered them in the process.
